Good news everyone I just got a scoop from an (unmentionable source: is that a word). HTC ‘high tech computers‘ has developed its own gphone. Its not surprising but just great that we’re able to confirm this. All I’ve got for specs is the fact that its got a 3mp camera and its a 3g device. As i get more details I’ll post it Hopefully an image will follow suit soon. Though i’m sure the big boys in the game such as gizmodo and endgadget will beat me to it.

A side note: I”m praying that the xda-developers are working on ports of android to previous htc handsets to the Gphones release. Also will androids requirements make it possible for any smartphone to run it or will that be the responsibility of the genius mobile os porter.

Look on this thing move? smooth screen transitions and on just a 300mhz hand held. I wonder how it would run on a htc tytn, kaiser or better yet an iphone. Todays software stacks treat quake like the new doom [ portable and playable on anything with a screen and buttons ]. See android kick ass

I must say I’ve been using rss for years but now i’ve taken it to a whole new level. I’ve had pocket pc’s for years now, using them for all sorts of productivity, emails, im on the go and even blogging. Yet I’ve never thought of putting an rss client on my pocket pc to keep me up to date with my news, blogs and podcasts. A bigger plus is with the podcast i can listen to the podcast on said pocket pc. I’ve recently installed a rom on my htc which came with a Rss agregator and man its just been awesome. I’m just ontop of all the news. on the hour every hour updates pulled to my handset. If your a person that just likes to be in the “know” you should definitely try this out.

The better of the rss aggregators I’ve seen is Vigo. However I use Rsshub because it was already on my pocket pc.

UMPC’s the talk for mobile computing in 2008. Hp has started talking about the lifestyle enhancing umpc device which they plan to introduce to the market. OQO now has the e2 on sale for about $900 usd which is pretty impressive if you ask me. cuz thats all the power of a desktop in your hands or in your jacket (well if your jacket has big pockets). Do you think the umpc will become a need to have accessory? Will it begin to integrate mobile telephony and be the ultimate computational and comunicational Device. Most of all, of the entities delivering umpc’s to the market who’ll be the first to get it right and dominate the market. Asus has attempted to offer what seems to be the cheapest umpc to date the Asus eee pc which retails for an amazing $200. Even I with my extremely tight budget might be able to afford.

When will they get to jamaica :’( ( i woe for my country from a technological stand point.. truely i do)

I mean i haven’t heard it officially and I’m one of the power mobile users who knocked the iphone upon introduction to the market. As i didn’t see it capable of delivering a productive mobile experience to the end user. I was expecially uncertain about the lack of a physical qwerty.. yknow the whole tactile feedback thing. But anyway. I’ve been watching the mobile market since the introduction of the iphone and if the iphone has done anything at all to the market its inspire competition, create production drive, and remodelled how the web is delivered to a mobile handset. They are also greatly responsible for changing the way that people think or expect to interact with a mobile handset. For that I thank apple.. I truely do.

Lets take a look at alot of the mobile handsets being released today and for future release. Take a look at the form factors. Take a look at the shape, at the ui and the screen transitions. Dont see it as yet then lets get specific.

Lets start with the hardware:

First we have the iphone for referencing puproses:

Take a look at the other handsets in comparision to the iphone notice anything similar in their form factor, look, or shape of device? yeh.. they all kinda look like family of cousins? some more distant than some.

Then you’ve got the user interface. Google’s android operating system for mobile handset has a lot of similar animations. Also the browser is based on the same on the iphone, the webkit browser which makes browsing on a handset almost the same as browsing on a desktop. Delivering rich internet content in the palm of your hand.

Probably something that’ll get mobile handset application of the year. Easily. Skyfire is a web browser, which doesn’t limit your to mobile sites but allows you to browse desktop rendered websites as well. Which isn’t anything that ground breaking as this has been happening for years now.

If it was just the desktop browsing then i wouldn’t be writing about sky fire right? Thats right Skyfire takes the desktop browsing on a mobile handset a bit further. It allows flash execution / rendering, java processing and so on. What does this mean in english? it means youtube from your cell phone via the browser. It means google maps on your cell phone via the browser and not a dedicated app which would take up space for youtube only. and another for google maps only. 1 browser to bridge everything.

I would assume they are using the webkit engine as the base of the browser. How they allow for flash and java processing I’m not as yet certain.

They’re currently doing private beta testing to sign up head over to skyfire beta signup. Sadly You’ve gotta have a us phone number to get in which blows Cauase i’m in the tropics but i do meet the other requirements.. anyway if its available to you sign up get it and comment so i can know how it really handles the web.

I know, i know how did this happen is what your thinking. Well I know I am. Being a proud owner of an htc tytn and having traverse the htc brand from the days of the qtek 9090 / htc blue angel. The new number 1 and 2 is reportedly Motorola and Samsung. The Q and the Black Jack has apparently taken the market by storm and propelled both companies to the top.

Samsung seems to be doing really big things right now as their new handset got leaked and it’s a smart move. It seems they are now working with the

1. iphone form factor which the world has accepted with open arms
2. windows mobile which everybody is used to

On the features side of things theres:

1. gps
2. fm radio
3. tv-out
4. 5 megapixel camera
5. up tto a whopping 8gb micro sd card support
6. wifi
7. bluetooth

The device is slated to be released in September 2008.

Microsoft has released version 1.0 Silverlight, the fully supported version of its cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media and rich experiences on the Web. Adobe Flash just got it’s first serious competition and from the exapmles of videos, applications and sites that have been designed using Silverlight so far I am itching to tr my hand at some designing with it.

DX10 hardware is already obsolete….

REPRESENTATIVES from the almighty Vole have been speaking at Siggraph over the last few days, and what they’ve said hasn’t exactly lowered the blood pressure of many attendees.

Microserfs were there to espouse the greatness of DirectX 10.1, the next revision to the DX graphics spec, which is due to arrive with Windows Vista SP1.

Here’s the thing. DX10 hardware - such as the GeForce 8800 or the Radeon 2900 - won’t work with the new 10.1 features. The 0.1 revision requires completely new hardware for support, thus royally cheesing off many gamers who paid top whack for their new hardware over the last few months on the basis of future game compatibility.

But these gamers shouldn’t fret too much - 10.1 adds virtually nothing that they will care about and, more to the point, adds almost nothing that developers are likely to care about. The spec revision basically makes a number of things that are optional in DX10 compulsory under the new standard - such as 32-bit floating point filtering, as opposed to the 16-bit current. 4xAA is a compulsory standard to support in 10.1, whereas graphics vendors can pick and choose their anti-aliasing support currently.

We suspect that the spec is likely to be ill-received. Not only does it require brand new hardware, immediately creating a miniscule sub-set of DX10 owners, but it also requires Vista SP1, and also requires developer implementation.

The land of the rising sun for years now has been quickly evolving more and more into a “cashless society.” In japan you can buy a sports car, a train ticket or a big mac by using your cellphone, it seems cellphone sizes are not shrinking fast enough and a more “convenient” way is needed to pay and Hitachi has been developing new technology that requires no special equipment (at least for the customer). The system uses biometric technology to identify the veins on a person’s finger, which can then serve as a credit card, ID or ATM card. Cool huh? Read more
