Jamaica is definitely emerging on the e-commerce scene. On the 5th of April 2008 There was an event held called Emerge (click for event details). It featured Jamaica’s best web applications along with some other booths that weren’t necessarily web related (but could be if you think about it). It was a great networking opportunity and extremely good for promotion purposes as quite a few media people passed through. Among my happiest moment of the entire expo is hearing about paymasters move to online payment processing. Genius and should have been done along time ago. But i will not be the dark person that complains even when the item of desire is delivered. Kudos to paymaster on that move (praise is deserved) Ncb can go and die with their merchant accounts for all i care as its super difficult to acquire one as a little guy in the business-scape of Jamaica / the Caribbean / world.

For the geek i think the booth of choice to stop by would have definitely been FennTech they had the super sized plasma tv’s hooked up to pc for your gaming pleasure. They had a lot of ipod accessories and pc accessories and gave away a lot of cool swag (free stuff that people love receiving at expos). After seeing those plasmas in action I’m contemplating ebaying one of those bad boys imagine my pc hooked up to a 42″ or more screen.. Jeez *faints*.

For the event seeker events.in876.com was the booth to be at, to basically orient ones self with the most diversified event listing website available. With the most feature rich and social oriented approach to make the user feel comfortable with using the product. events.in876.com launched version 2.0 of their product at the Emerge Expo, it was well received by the patrons.

The food lovers would have found them self over by Cb chicken who had food for tasting (not sure why they were there.. but if they pushing for e-commerce with chicken orders i guess they have a legitimate reason). Also indulge another food company was present.

Audio was up in the place showing off their roadster and the new audi A6 which you’ve gotta be filthy rich.. like if cut you bleed money to kinda rich to buy one.

There were quite a few booths there but I was representing so i didn’t venture alot. But overall the vibe at the expo was great and i think anyone could have enjoyed it techhead , geek, audiophile, gamer or just a simple person. Talking about android this morning got me wondering. What will those people really do next. While talking to a friend he blurted out Consoles. Wouldn’t that be something. Gbox anybody? I felt a bit idle and tried modifying the existing generation consoles to be G stuff but I suck at photoshop so..

Seems papa sony called the ps3 fat and its now on a diet with a time line slated to end in autumn to reveal the ultimate physique while still being able to manage them heavy processing demanding graphics. The slim version of the ps3 will definitely make a fuss on the market I’m sure. Lots of people will be unloading the bulky versions at lower prices i’m sure (so thats an opportunity for second hand console buyers). Sony always does this which kinds of irks me. Why not just get it right the first time. If your gonna make a special edition Console in commemoration of a game thats cool but the whole big one slim one thing is getting old. This one was done with the sony ps1, sony psp, sony ps2 and now they do it for the ps3 and This’ll probably happen through to the ps 20. Stop ripping people off there’s generally no upgrades of any significance to warrant the device.

edit: Does any one even own a ps3 though… I know kevin rose got one from sony cause i mean he’s the boss yknow.. diggnation and all. and He said he’s only played it a few times in one of em recent shows.. cant remember the episode number. DX10 hardware is already obsolete….

REPRESENTATIVES from the almighty Vole have been speaking at Siggraph over the last few days, and what they’ve said hasn’t exactly lowered the blood pressure of many attendees.

Microserfs were there to espouse the greatness of DirectX 10.1, the next revision to the DX graphics spec, which is due to arrive with Windows Vista SP1.

Here’s the thing. DX10 hardware - such as the GeForce 8800 or the Radeon 2900 - won’t work with the new 10.1 features. The 0.1 revision requires completely new hardware for support, thus royally cheesing off many gamers who paid top whack for their new hardware over the last few months on the basis of future game compatibility.

But these gamers shouldn’t fret too much - 10.1 adds virtually nothing that they will care about and, more to the point, adds almost nothing that developers are likely to care about. The spec revision basically makes a number of things that are optional in DX10 compulsory under the new standard - such as 32-bit floating point filtering, as opposed to the 16-bit current. 4xAA is a compulsory standard to support in 10.1, whereas graphics vendors can pick and choose their anti-aliasing support currently.

We suspect that the spec is likely to be ill-received. Not only does it require brand new hardware, immediately creating a miniscule sub-set of DX10 owners, but it also requires Vista SP1, and also requires developer implementation.

I was with my friend today, she was babysitting her bf’s two kids. One of which is 13 yrs old. The “Mommy has trust fund, silver spoon, I know everything, never work for shit”, smart aleck kids that make you wanna beat them to death.

I am 31, Grandpa age, so he is boasting about his super-boffin mad skillz, quoting moves from the latest fighting games etc, so I start to laugh realising I am gaming twice as long as coloured hair brat has been alive.

Anyhow, we end up at the house, PS2 Plugged in (He broke his Xbox). I pick out Snk vs Capcom 2 and my huge hands cramp at the tiny ass PS2 Controller ( think of a gorilla holding a cellphone).

Is punks like that have mommy buy them Twin Turbo Sports Cars at 18 and kill off people under the mistaken impression that they can drive.

(psst, I always hated Ryu and Ken, Cause I always considered them too powerfull compared to other SF Chars, So I honed my skills back in the day using old school Chun-li, till I could hold my own using forestalling and speed)

I watched Microsoft’s E3 coverage the other day and I was quite impressed with their Christmas holiday line up. they promised to deliver the 3 games that locked the industry in 2004 in the same season. Those games being Xbox’s Halo 2, Grandthenft auto 3 and Madden 2004. This Year microsoft has promised to deliver the same package with Grand Theft Auto 4,Xbox’s Halo 3 and madden 2008. Lets see if the sales value will really sky rocket.

Despite all the huffing and puffing microsoft put on at E3 the fact of the matter still remains that right now the wii is outselling both the xbox 360, and Sony playstation 3.

Leaving the gaming scene Lets touch on the web analytic tool that microsoft is working on. They plan to have a beta release open by Christmas 2007. This is a direct taunt at google from microsoft. I”m all for the competition though, Cause end user like me always benefits.

Every game head should know about this store ‘str8games‘ [ pronounced ’str-eight’ games ]. They’re located in liguanea upstairs in Village Plaza accross from burger king. They got really reasonable prices and offer some neat deals and game trading. They’ll also purchase old games from you and so on. Saw them at an expo on saturday the put on a really good show and was among the most impressive of the booths. I saw the first supernintendo in about i dunno 5 years or more. Had to play, and sadly i got my assed kicked on killer instinct by falgore.

After visiting all the booths I eventually ended up back at the str8games booth and no it wasn’t because of the women they just had the best vibe going.

I like the idea of trying to push the gaming scene in jamaica, Hope there can be combined effort from the other major players in this market to take us where we need to be. But before you can get their str8games. You must and i emphasize MUST make a better website!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The current one is horrid distasteful and extremely hard to look at but its all a work in progress and I’m sure you’ll get to it eventually. Just dont’ take too long.
