First of all, I need to say congratulations to our (Jamaica’s) olympic team on a record performance for this olympics (which is not yet complete and we are still in standings for 2 more medals one of which is a gold medal)
So on wednesday me and a friend of mine knocked heads and came up with the brilliant idea of making an “official IAAF release” jokingly to follow the trend that’s been happening where these AMERICANS (this isnt a blog for that kinda discussion so u win this time), have been accusing us of using drugs and etcetera. The release stated that the IAAF has placed a ban on various jamaican foods (ackee saltfish etcetera due to the fact that they may contain performance enhancing substances.
As I said before this was meant as nothing more than a joke done by some idle yutes who had some computer knowledge. So we scoured the internet and found the various logo’s, designed our letter head and wrote the release, and proceeded to email it to some family and friends (very few people). We all got a laugh off it and proceeded to email it out to some other people etcetera… To my surprise I got it back in an email last night from somebody who I didnt even consider sending the email to in the first place… Now this wasn’t the only thing that surprised me… The fwd list on the email had some addresses that included UK, various caribbean islands and america…
Today I also got a call from the same guy that did the “release” with me, saying that on a popular jamaican radio program, they had also got the release and were cussing about the “idlers who did the article”. This made me realize just how powerful the internet really is. Not only has it probably (by now) reached all around the world, there were people who were actually taking it seriously! I was left speechless after I realized the impact me and my idleness I had lol. I was even going to release an addition to the article (I still will… you’ll hear about it soon)
