Yep its true there is a safari exe for download at apple.com, Take a walk on the wild side and try out safari. I tried it just for trying sake like i do with every new web browser. I can tell you this much. its different, The metal look, but thats about as far as i’ld go. Lets take alook at it feature for feature.
- Blazing performance. - hmm yeh its fast but i don’t see the difference between a fresh install of Firefox with no extensions they’ll pretty much load pages in the same time.
- Elegant user interface which lets you focus on the web not your browser. kind of true however I’ve never had that problem with any browser. as long as i can browse efficiently and effectively with little rendering problems I’ve got no problems.
- Organize bookmarks like you organize music on your itunes - I don’t necessarily like how it was organized in the first place and anyone that depends on system browser bookmarks need to get with the times. go delicious your bookmarks or use iGoogle’s (itunes lawsuit any one?) bookmark gadget to store em. that way you can access them at home, at work, in japan in Romania or were ever.
- Popup blocker. I don’t have to comment on this
- tabbed browsing - firefox kinda oozed this. made ie squirm and developed their own. opera had it before Firefox if i remember correctly. I just never liked opera.
and this is getting annoying as you can see where i’m going with it. The only difference I see is the snapback for search. The form field resize (very interesting) and simple to do (click and drag). Everything else is basically standard. For the mac enthusiast who cant afford a mac I guess now you can run flyakite os and download safari and fool the world that your running mac.. or just buy os-X and install it on your pc as they have that ability now (made for intel systems). I’m uninstalling this browser in a few minutes though. Or i might keep it to test how sites i develop render to show some courtesy to the mac users on the internet.

It was kinda fun though, like browsing blindfolded. cause you really aren’t sure what your doing. couldn’t type in the url bar couldn’t see bookmarks. nothing. Stevie… get on that right now fix it.
