Minority report, mission impossible not really matrix or rather i hope it doesn’t get to that, I don’t wanna be a battery for a machine. Anyway without further delay I give you Microsoft’s touchlight technology
The technology features a transparent plasma screen which is receptive to touch, has scanning capabilities and many touch and drag manipulation features to things on screen. It also gives you the ability to emulate Bruce lee. You’ll know it when you see it. If you didn’t think about Bruce lee waving his hand around while watching the video something is seriously wrong with you.
The next thing is Jeff Han of new york university. Demonstrating a project of his. Which features a touch screen which unlike the typical and conventional touch sensors which can only register one contact point at a time this baby can accept as many as you can imagine. This technology though it isn’t new definitely presents possible changes to computing industry relative to how people interface with computers. Enjoy the video. I lift my virtual White hat to Jeff Han the most quotable line of what he said to me is “theres no reason in this day and age that we should be conforming to a physical device.. Interfaces should be conforming to us”
Last but not least is the latest use of this technology by Microsoft in a TABLE???? Yep you read right Microsoft has engineered a table which they call surface, The concept of surface is fairly interesting, Featuring the same features as the touchlight, and Jeff Hans project in a table, Powered by a vista tv in the table’s base. Again multiple input sensors allows multiple users around the table to utilize the device. The technology is obviously not accessible by the average geek at the moment, So expensive that Microsoft is doing a partnership roll out of the technology with various companies. T-mobile plans to utilize surface technology to demonstrate and show case its devices in stores, Starwood hotels will put itin the lobby areas and Harrah’s casinos and slot machine ruler IGT plans to use Surface for gambling application (now you can throw your pennies down the drain) in a more futuristic fashion maybe drag the pennies directly from your bank account in to a virtual slot that’ll definitely clean out the gamblers faster no excuse to stop gambling until there really is no money left. (The lobbyists will go crazy over this one I’m sure).
Below are pictures of surface possible usage.
