Wine-doors is an application designed to make installing windows software on Linux, Solaris or other Unix systems easier. Wine-doors is essentially a package management tool for windows software on Linux systems. Most Linux desktop users are familiar with package management style application delivery, so it made sense to apply this model to windows software.Wine-doors works by leveraging the exquisite software, libraries and tools created over at WineHQ, there are also plans to support Cedega, cvscedega and Crossover Office.
Wonderful idea. I”ve never really had a problem using wine from comand line to install the windows applications that i might need to run in linux however. This’ll make the linux revolution quite easier. The bottom line is no matter how hard a linux activist might try to deny it (most do not) there are some windows applications that you just will need until linux alternative of the same value / efficiency emerges such applications are Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Yes there is gimp and there is NVU but non are as versatile as their windows counter parts. Wine Doors is really beautiful and will enable any user beginner or geek to be able to install a windows application without terminal or inner workings of Linux knowledge.
